Using CFD modelling to study hydraulic flow over labyrinth weirs

Abstract The compound labyrinth weir is a new type of that considered good applicable choice for increasing the capacity discharge. flow over complex problem because behavior three-dimensional. present study aims to simulate into critical regions cannot be observed when using an experimental test. computational fluid dynamics (CFD) programme was utilised implement sensitive analysis this purpose and under different conditions. MAPE RMSE indices were verify CFD results with work. statistical maximum error ME, 4.7%, 0.033 3.9 respectively. Therefore, findings showed there matching between results. demonstrated hydraulics behaviour similar oblique linear weirs in high discharges. also confirmed air cavities bubbles existed behind nappe addition negative pressure may occur beneath aerated. Furthermore, divided two parts most streamlines concentrated notches. Moreover, velocity passing through notches greater than crest weir.
